Reducing Shipping Expenses

Before you ship your vehicle using a car moving company, there are a few smart things that you are going to want to do before you take your car to the drop-off point for the shipping process.

Clean the Outside of Your Car

The first thing that you are going to want to do is clean the outside of the car. When you take the car to the shipping company, they are going to take pictures of your vehicle to document the state that it was in before they shipped it and after they shipped your vehicle. It will be easier to document the state of your vehicle if it is clean before it is shipped.

Clean the Inside of Your Car

Second, you are going to want to clean the inside of the car. When you clean the inside of the car, you are going to want to remove anything that is not necessary to keep in your car. Your car should not be filled up with items; it should ideally be as empty as possible. Your car going to be moved around during the shipping process and should not be used s an additional storage space.

Be sure to vacuum your vehicle as well as wiped down the inside of your vehicle. You don't want to pick up a vehicle that is dirty inside; you want to pick up a vehicle that is nice and clean inside as you get started in your life at your new location. Taking the time to vacuum and clean the inside of your vehicle will feel worth it when you pick up a nice, clean car.

Turn off the Alarm

Most cars have a built-in alarm system. You are going to want to turn off and disable the alarm on your vehicle. You don't want your cars alarm to be going off for miles down the interstate as it is being transported on a flat-bed truck. If you are not sure how to disable your alarm, take your vehicle to a local dealership and have them show you how to turn the alarm off. If all else fails, disconnect the battery. If you do this, be sure to let the shipping company know as they will have to move your vehicle around and will need to connect and disconnect the battery.

Before you take your vehicle to be shipped, make sure that you clean the inside and outside of your vehicle. This will make it easier for the shipping company to take pictures of the state of your vehicle and it will feel nice when you get to your destination and pick up a nice, clean car. Also, be sur to turn off the alarm on the car so that it doesn't go off during the transportation and moving process.
